This summer's best secret: Australia's winter

Being in the southern hemisphere, Australia experiences winter in the month of June, July, and August when the Northern hemisphere is experiencing summer. However, unlike the winters over there, winters in Australia are quite easy. Those visiting the country during winter will find it similar to European Autumns, where temperatures in most parts never dips below comfortable levels.

Although many prefer to visit Australia during summer, Australia is still a fantastic place to visit irrespective of the season.

With less tourist inflow during winter, you no more have to bother about over-crowded tourist attractions, booked up buses and busy hotels.

The hotels are cheaper, and easily available. The chances of you getting great deals are much higher.

Winters are off-peak travel season’s, which means that you can save some bucks with Low cost budget Airlines.

Even in winter, Australia is packed with loads of things to do, right from the tropical North to the snowy Alpine regions in the South.

Here are some more reasons why Australia is a perfect destination for those who want to beat the Northern Hemisphere's summer:

1. Take the grand road trip

Darwin to Katherine to Alice Springs

Katherine is a 320 Kms drive from Darwin. From Katherine, you can pick either The Nature's Way tourism drive, which connects Pine Creek to World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park and in west Douglas-Daly and Litchfield National Park.

From Darwin, you can rent campervans or head south by train.

Take many pictures and leave nothing but footprints. Talk with the friendly residents and fellow tourists and take explore off the beaten track on walks and tours.

2. Celebrate Christmas when nobody does.

Celebrate Christmas, off-season

Katoomba is a place in the Blue Mountains that celebrates Christmas in July, during Yulefest. Katoomba is a two-hour drive from Sydney. The town is known for its art Deco homes on steep lanes.

“The middle of winter is one time in the Blue Mountains when you can really enjoy a meal of roast turkey with stuffing, glazed ham, cranberry sauce, mince pies, and steaming plum puddings with brandy sauce. A Christmas feast makes good sense at this time of the year, unlike in the sweltering, midsummer heat that is typical of December 25th in most parts of Australia.”

3. Enjoy the Wildlife

Crocodile Hunter's zoo

The late Steve Irwin's extensive love for wildlife is quite evident at this incredible Australian Zoo. The zoo is just north of the dazzling city of Brisbane (aka 'Brisvegas') and accessible by CityTrain public transit.

4. Wine

Victoria’s Yarra Valley is home to about 80 wineries spread over a beautiful landscape. Visit Healesville for either a day, or a night. In addition to being a paradise for beer lovers, Healesville has rich flora and fauna. The sightings of koalas, Kangaroo, and Tasmanian devils are common here.

5. Winter Sports

Ski Run

When most of the Northern Hemisphere is dealing with the sweltering summer heat, Australians are skiing and enjoying other winter sports.

Mt Buller is a three-hour drive from Melbourne and is considered the most glamorous resort with 400 hectares of skiing space and vertical drops of 400m. Packages in the resort can be booked from starting prices of A$430 a night, in peak season.
