Ganesh Chaturthi (29th August 2014) - It is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesha which is also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi and Ganeshotsav. Huge and enticing idols are sculptured to worship throughout the festival i.e. for 1-10 days where the priest single-mindedly invoke the life into the statue. Cultural feast coupled with hymn chanting is the great attraction of this festival. At the end of the 10th day or 11th day, the deities are rallied out majestically, through the streets escorted with a fanfare of singing and dancing; and are immersed into a river, sea or a well. The strong faith of this festival is that the Lord Ganesha is believed to have taken away the troubles of his devotees. Diwali (23rd October 2014) – Indian tots are taught Diwali as the festival of color and lights. Diwali is heralded as the triumph of good over evil where Lord Rama’s glorious and long-awaited return to his Kingdom of Ayodhya after his fourteen long years of exile in the forests. It is believed to be the holy time to offer prayers to Maha Lakshmi who is the goddess of wealth and prosperity. Indians seem to light their homes and street with lanterns and explode fireworks.
