Trekking Season in Nepal

Trekking season in NepalWhile in Nepal trekking can be undertaken during any time of a year, the best season to visit is from Sept to November during Autumns and March to May during Springs. However, the summer and winter trekking season from June-August and December-February, respectively, can be equally enjoyable provided you plan your journey.

Of all the seasons, the autumn trekking season is particularly popular among tourists. A popular season means all the flights and hotels would be booked, well in advance. And any last minute booking, thanks to the demand, would attract hefty fares.

Even if you can’t get your hands during this season because of a variety of reasons, the rest of the seasons are equally blessed and have something distinct to offer.

THE AUTUMN SEASON

Duration: September-November

The best part: Mornings are typically with clear skies with clouds gathering around the afternoon, fading at night to reveal remarkable starry sky.

Highlights:

  • Exceptional weather and enticing mountain views
  • Moderate Temperature in comparison to winters
  • Clear sky for exceptional views

Lowlights:

  • Too crowded
  • Higher hotel and flight fares

THE WINTER SEASON

Duration: December-February

The best part: A perfect low trekking experience, particularly below 3000m

Highlights:

  • Incredible scenery—snow-capped mountains in vicinity
  • Best time for Lower elevation trekking below 3,000m

Lowlights:

  • Higher elevation trekking not possible
  • Temperature can fall below 0 C
  • High passes (above 4,000 m) are closed

THE SPRING SEASON

Duration: March-May

The best part: A chance to see Rhododendron, Nepal’s national flower, which is on full bloom during this season

Highlights:

  • Perfect season for high elevation trekking
  • Rich flora and fauna blossoming all over, creating an eye pleasing experience

Lowlight:

  • The temperature can get little higher at a lower elevation.

THE SUMMER SEASON

Duration: June-August

  • Perfect season for short treks
  • Chance to trek in summer specific destinations, which are otherwise impossible to visit during winters or spring due to thick snow

Lowlight:

Heavy rainfall during Monsoon makes trekking conditions unfavourable
