Kite Festival (Uttarayan or Makar Sankranti)

It is most popular festival of Ahmadabad celebrated every year on January 14th. As a part of this festival an International Kite Festival is organized every year by the government of Gujarat where people from various countries are invited to participate and witness this amazing event. There are dances, shows, various competition and many more function held as a part of this event. The city’s sky view is marvellous being filled with colourful balloon and kites of all sizes.

Navratri

Another most popular festival of Ahmadabad is Navratri which is celebrated with great enthusiasm by the people. The festival is celebrated as a prayer to goddess Amba and folk dance of Gujarat that garba is done by the people to please the Goddess. The festive is celebrated with great joy for nine nights. People from everywhere come to ahemdabad to experience this great festive and be a part of it. Navratri is celebrated in the months of October.

Rath Yatra

It is celebrated in the month of June/July. Rath Yatra is the rath/chariot journey of the idols of Lord Jagannath (incarnation of Lord Krishna), Balram and Subhadra, ornamented with garlands, from the Jagannath temple around the city in a chariot so that every person can get the sight of the holy idols and gets a chance to worship the Gods and Goddess. The yatra/journey starts in morning. People in a large number come worship the holy idols and even the sight of the idol makes there day.

Tarnetar Mela

Every year three-day fair is held at Tarnetar in Saurashtra, Gujarat. Tarnetar is 198 km from Ahmadabad from where you can easily get transportation source to reach Tarnetar to enjoy the mela, which one of the most colourful event of Gujarat.

Holi

Holi, a festival of colour is celebrates the advent of spring season. Holi is celebrated with great spirits in Ahemdabad.

Deepavali

As all other cities of India, Diwali is celebrated with a great joy and faith in Ahmadabad also. The lighting and vigorous sounds quenches whole of the city’s night sky. People enjoy burning crackers, tasty food, and many more during this period.

Modhera Dance Festival

Classical dance festival held in the month of January every year for three days at Modhera Sun Temple, which 60 km south-west of Ahmedabad.

Kutch Mahotsava

During Kutch Mahotsav a fair is held every year by the Gujarat’s tourism authorities in the month of February. The folk dancing, poetry, jewellery, music, ballads and regional handicrafts are featured in the festival.
